I have been thinking lately about the Romans chapter 8 verse 31. Particularly the second part. "If God is for us, who can be against us?" My thoughts were inspired by the new Passion CD, and Chris Tomlin's song "Our God." Great song! The bridge quotes Romans 8:31. Tyler and I were riding to Knoxville and listening to the song, and I asked him, "Do we really believe that part, I mean do we wake up everyday and truly know that God is FOR US, and that nothing can stand against us?" He stated simply, "We have the victory in the end no matter what happens on this earth, Madison." (Thank the Lord, for such a wonderful person in my life like him!) But I guess I had just never thought about it. I think about failure in the earthly since. We fail a test, we fail at getting a job, we fail at making friends, we fail at parenting, what ever it maybe. BUT THAT IS NOT IT! Do you realize that God is FOR YOU? (It get's me excited!) He is your own personal fan club! Our God who is so strong is FIGHTING for you! "Yet their Redeemer is strong; the Lord Almighty is his name. He will vigourously defend their cause." Jeremiah 50:34
However, God is not "for us," in our sin. He is not cheering you on as you do something that does not bring Him Glory. A couple verses up in Romans 8, shows us this.
"And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose." Romans 8:28
He works for the good of those WHO LOVE HIM, and he have been called according to his purpose. He fights for you when you are working for His purpose, and you will succeed, if it is in line with his purpose for your life! The verse in Isaiah proves this...
"no weapon formed against you will prevail, and you will refute every tongue that accuses you. This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord, and this is their vindication from me," declares the Lord" Isaiah 54:17
This is for the servants of the Lord, once again, those doing his work, his purpose, and fulfilling his will for their life! Nothing that anyone else does to try and stop you, will work, YOU WILL PREVAIL! WOW! Who knew we had that much power, when we actually do what the Lord wants for our lives?
Which brings me to this power that we have in Christ, not only is GOD for us, but so is his son! He is sitting beside the Father interceding FOR US. To interceed means, to intervene between parties with a view to reconcile differences. Which means that Jesus is fighting for us too! We have a team that is cheering us on!
"...Christ Jesus, who-died, more than that, who was raised to life-is at the right hand of God and is also interceding for us." Romans 8:34.
You have someone fighting for you! You are loved THAT much! The verse following the previous one states...
" Who shall seperate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword? Romans 8:34-35
Persecution, famine, nakedness, danger, sword, all of these things are those earthly failures I was talking about earlier. So what does God's word say about these failures, can they seperate us from Christ? The response...
"NO!, in all these things we are MORE than CONQUERORS through him who loved us.
For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, niehter present nor future, nor ANY powers, neither height nor depth, nor ANYTHING ELSE IN ALL CREATION, will be able to seperate us from the love of God that is in Chris Jesus our Lord!" Romans 8: 37-39
And, here we are back again to the Power and success we have in God! We are MORE than Conquerors, I am not sure that is even comprehendable to me. To be MORE than a conqueror, I know what success feels like, but do I know what it feels like to be MORE than successful at something I set out to do. I pray that God will show this to me.
Well, if all of my words have not convinced you of the Power of God, and how he is FOR you, and makes you prevail when in his will, take it from the Word of God itself.
"Where is he who set his Holy Spirit among them, who sent his glorious arm of power to be at Moses' right hand, who divided the waters before them, to gain for himself everlasting renown, who led them trhough the depths? Like a horse in open country, THEY DID NOT STUMBLE; like cattle that go down to the plain, they were given rest by the Spirit of the Lord..." Isaiah 64:12-14
The example of Moses proves it! Not only was God their to keep them from stumbling on their way through the rocky terrain of the ocean floor, BUT he even did the work to part the sea for them! God opened the door, asked them to follow and obey, they did and they DID NOT STUMBLE, they were successful, they were CONQUERORS, and they were loved by God, who did all of this to gain for himself everlasting renown (which I believe is God's will for everyone's life). Your purpose on this earth is to bring God glory, nothing else, and that your life might be one that brings the Lord EVERLASTING RENOWN! And, I don't know anything that is more successful than that!
Thanks Madison for the good Word! It's there right in front of our noses, but just because we read it.. doesn't mean we truly think about it and realize how precious and priceless this love is. God is Love. He is wonderful and mighty.. and I'm so proud that He is on His throne and protecting us. On our side... :)
ReplyDeleteYou know, I can't help but think about how often I give lip service to these passages but in my life don't really live it out- ugh. I'm reminded of one of God's names Jehovah-Nissi (Exodus 17:15)- it means God is your Banner. The little devotional I have says this: "This is your new identity: You are His! You are no longer a victim. You're a victor! You don't have to be defeated by your circumstances; He's in there fighting for you!" - and guess what?! He's already won!!!!
